Our Mission

Postpartum Health Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about postpartum emotional disorders and providing support and treatment referrals to women who are struggling with them.

Our History

Postpartum Health Alliance has been operating in San Diego since 1998. San Diego PHA was founded by Dr. Leslie Tam, Dr. Kelly Boyd-Bragadeste, Dr. Martha Diamond, Dr. Janet Jaffee,  Dr. Adele Josepho, and Dr. Robert Hickman.

What We Do

We provide support and referrals for treatment through our "warmline," which is staffed by trained volunteers.  The warmline takes messages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The warmline can be reached at 619-254-0023.

We are also a membership organization of diverse and dedicated health care and resource providers, working together to raise awareness of PMADs.  To become a member of PHA, email our Membership Coordinators at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We have a very active Education Committee that provides trainings, workshops and conferences in order to educate a wide variety of professionals who come in contact with new mothers and families.  For information about our educational offerings, check our Upcoming Events link on this website or email our Education Coordinator at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We offer a referral list of health care providers who are members of PHA and have committed to keeping up with PPD prevention, diagnosis and treatment updates. We publish a newsletter for members and maintain this website as a resource for mothers, families and professionals.  In addition, you can visit our page on Facebook and find useful information and engaging stories on our blog at postpartumhealthalliance.blogspot.com.

Our Partners
Over the years Jane Honikman, founder of Postpartum Support International (postpartum.net), has been of tremendous assistance to PHA. Dr. Leslie Tam, M.D., Dr. Barbara Parry, M.D., of UCSD, Mary Obata, MFT, and Dr. Chris Bernet, Ph.D., have each given much to this organization over the years, and we wouldn't be where we are today without their continued support.

We are indebted to First Five Commission, which provided initial funding for our brochure. We are grateful also to Laura Galinson, of Price-Galinson Charities, who has served as our guide through the world of philanthropy.

Our thanks also to Lisa Druxman, founder of Stroller Strides (strollerstrides.com), for everything she and her staff do to support new mothers -- and to bring in funds to our growing organization.
