Sleep deprivation and depression/anxiety 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
We all know that sleep deprivation is a major trigger of postpartum mood disorders. Anybody who has had to feed a newborn every few hours for days on end understands this.

60 minutes recently had a very interesting piece about the science of sleep. Lesley Stahl did the report. In it she explores what new research tells us about the importance of sleep. 4 nights of only 4 hours sleep will make you slightly diabetic. Brain scans also reveal that 4 nights of 4 hours sleep will cause you to overreact emotionally to traumatic photos. No wonder my new mommy friends and I were getting teary-eyed over Law and Order episodes when we had newborns.

Check out the CBS 60 minutes website to read the transcript of the March 16th show.
