Welcome New Dads

Becoming a father is a life changing event. New dads experience excitement and face many, often unanticipated new challenges.  Despite the magnitude of this transition, fathers of newborns and toddlers are usually left to navigate this territory without much specific guidance or support.  Most books, workshops and support groups are geared toward the needs and perspectives of a new mother, which can leave new dads feeling a bit out of the loop.

Basic Training for New Dads (BTND) is a two-part class developed for fathers of newborn to one year old babies.  BTND provides “guy-friendly” parent training and support resources for new dads in the San Diego area.

The class covers both specific, hands-on skills, such as changing a diaper and how to soothe an infant, as well as guidance for handling some of the less tangible issues, such as changing roles, new relationship dynamics, work/family balance and the wide range of challenges a new dad experiences.  Participants will have the chance to shorten the learning curve by comparing notes with other new fathers and asking questions of the facilitator, licensed psychologist and father of two, Dr. Danny Singley.

If you’re a dad who’s interested in learning some valuable parenting techniques and having a frank discussion about fatherhood with other dads, BTND is for you.
