What we at PHA want: - Ob-gyns and fertility doctors to educate women about postpartum mood disorders, especially those at high risk of experiencing one.
- Pediatricians to screen new moms for mood disorders at well-baby visits.
- Insurance companies to pay for therapy and medication.
- Low-income health clinics to offer screening and treatment to uninsured moms.
- Moms to support other moms. No shame. No stigma.
What you can do to help support our cause:
- You can help by making a tax-deductible contribution. Talk to your company about matching your donation. Donations and grants allow us to continue our work.
- If you have experienced a postpartum adjustment difficulty, you can help by becoming a telephone volunteer, providing support to women who are struggling.
- If you are a health care professional, become a PHA resource provider and have your practice or business listed on our online referral list.
- If you work for a health care organization, contact us to set up a PPD training for health care professionals who come in contact with pregnant women and new mothers.
- Volunteer your talents to assist us in raising awareness of these common yet often misunderstood disorders. We regularly need marketing, accounting, and legal assistance. We also need volunteers to help us at events.
- Download PHA materials from our website (postpartumhealthalliance.org) and bring them to your health care provider and encourage him/her to distribute them to pregnant women and new moms.
- Share your personal PPD experience with moms in crisis on our public forum, available on our website, postpartumhealthalliance.org. Your story could bring comfort to a mom in crisis by letting her know that she is not alone, others have gone through what she is experiencing, and there is a way out.
- Use GoodSearch.com when you are browsing the Web and identify PHA as the nonprofit to receive cash for each search you do.
- Set up an Escrip account and identify Postpartum Health Alliance as the nonprofit to receive a percent of your purchases.
- Ask new mothers how they are doing. Be supportive. Be understanding. Let them know that lots of mothers don't love "motherhood" all the time. Most of us have times of anxiety, fear and sadness as well as times of joy.

“I am more equipped with the strength and knowledge that this will someday be a distant memory. But I must say, since I first started struggling with PPD years ago, I will never be the same. It was the most frightening experience ever…something I would not wish on my worst enemy.” --Jamiee Schwan, with Zach, 5, and Katie, 2 Read More |
